My previous solution of thickening the oil as it surfaces and can be scooped up with Kevin Kostners vacuum skimmers can also be the solution for the submerged oil. The fumed silica (or Icelandic Ash} will attract the oil like a magnet. SiO2+ CH3 will ionically bond. SiOHCH will settle in bottom.
A research study at Iceland Lakes near Volcano will evaluate its effect on the Oceans fish.
Adding dispersed oil in a controlled area can be compared for it,s toxic effects.
Fumed silica is available thru Cabot Corporation. Cabosil M5 and I also had someMt. St Hellens Ash which also is fumed silica also clumped up the surface oil.

Good show David, Christine Dell'Amore from the National Geographic News wrote this article few days ago that goes along with the first part of your talk
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/08/100805-gulf-oil-spill-cement-static-kill-bp-science-environment/

Talking about sharks, I am visiting this reef in Abaco, Bahamas that have several lemon sharks, reef sharks, black tips and nurse sharks, all of them seemingly resident of the area and in just 20 feet of water. Not too much overfishing in the region.

My best,

@Deborah

Deb- You might want to consider artificial turf. It looks substantially better than it used to (not green looking carpet... lol) and depending on how much you water your lawn, it will eventually pay for itself-

James T Thompson: The solution is to thicken the oil by spreading Cabosil M5 by Cabot Corporation or Icelandic ash which also is a fumed silica and Kevin Costner can use his skimming ships to pick up the silly putty likeglobs. The silica attracts the oil like a magnet. I can send photos showing how I can pick out the globs with a screened kitty litter scoop. It can be spread by air as they have been spraying Nalco Chemicals dispersant.

Cruising the Antarctic is a pretty special experience anyway, but cruising on Silversea's Prince Albert II makes it that extra bit special.

Love the fact that the video clip show's he is not stressing the shark. Alot of people think sharks are just waiting to attack you once you've entered the ocean atmosphere. That's not true, and the more people see that, the better. We "Can" go-exist and we need to do what ever it takes to bring these beautiful animals back into a healthy state of population. "Thank You" David, you always provide such wonderful information..
